Build your own Cigar box guitar pre-amp and booster!

Now most of us CBG players have electrified our axes by putting a piezo pickupPhoto Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket or two in it.   These piezos come with their issues, including low output and a tinny sound.  Here is your chance to build a custom "stompbox" designed to solve these piezo issues.

This version has a toggle switch to choose between simply being a buffer to take away the piezo tinnyness, or buffer plus a boost in power of several decibels.

This JFET pre-amp boosts your signal and evens out the signal response across the sonic spectrum.  Part of the way it does that is making the impedence of a piezo much more to the liking of a guitar amp.

Here is what is included in the kit:

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Input and Output jacks

Wire

9V snap

Veroboard

SPST switch

Transistor sockets

All resistors and capacitors needed

JFET transistor

You will need to supply solder, a soldering iron and wire cutters/strippers.

You will also need to supply a box to put it in.  You have lots of choices.  You could follow my lead above and use a tobacco tin.  You could go to the hardware store and get a junction box and paint it anyway you want.  You could click on the enclosure link to the left of the page and buy a box from me.
